Announcing Puglia Italia Cycling Tours

Puglia.  Pronounced  Poo/lyah.  Go on, get it out of your system.  Laugh at the word poo.  Better to laugh now than be laughed at when you are traveling in Italy asking how to get to Pug lee yah.

It’s in Italy but where exactly is Puglia?

Named as one of National Geographic’s Best Trips, the Puglia region spreads over 250 miles through the boot heel of Italy and along the romantic Adriatic Coast.  While central Tuscany has lots of hills and curves and other parts of Italy are nothing but flat terrain, Puglia has enough flat terrain to make it accessible to a broader audience but enough rolling terrain to keep it interesting.   Puglia offers dramatic coastal riding, cycling through high plain wheat fields and olive groves, and remnants of ancient civilizations seen from town to town.

Puglia boasts of several World Heritage sites including:

  1. Castel del Monte of the 13th century – a symbol of medieval military architecture, Castel del Monte is situated on the peak of an isolated hill and it has a perfect octagonal shape reflecting a harmonious blending of cultural elements from northern Europe, the Muslim world and classical antiquity.
  2. The Trulli of Alberobello – the trulli are iconic modern examples of prehistoric building techniques that have stood the test of time. Limestone buildings characterized by circular rooves, white dry stone walls, small windows and pinnacles in southern Puglia.
  3. The Sassi and the Park of the Rupestrian Churches – located in Matera (Basilicata Region) they are described as troglodyte settlement comprised of churches, monasteries, houses, and hermitages

Our Puglia Italy bike tours & vacations, as always, offer different styles of lodging and one authentic Puglia experience means staying at the local masserias – ancient farmhouses that have been preserved and reinvented as guest housing for travelers.

We are in the process of finalizing our itineraries and would love to add you to our list of… we’ll let you know when they’re ready for you and send a sample.
