Cazadero is known as the The
Heart of the Redwoods. You'll appreciate
why when you ride up to it along a quiet, single-lane
road through towering redwood groves. We
believe this is one of the most beautiful roads
in Northern California that is easily reached by
bicycle.
In times past, the good citizens
of San Francisco used to travel by narrow-gauge railroad
to the nearby town of Duncans Mills to marvel at the
redwoods around Cazadero.
Besides the General Store there are two
businesses we like in Cazadero:
Cazadero Supply - besides
helping out cyclists with the occasional repair - this
friendly auto shop have been doing business since 1886. The
owner, Don, is experienced in converting diesel cars
to run on “straight vegetable oil (SVO). SVO
is a waste product of the food service industry (known
commonly as fryer grease) and can be obtained free
anywhere in the United States.
Raymond's Bakery - named
for the father of Mark, the owner, the bakery in the
redwoods claims to make the “best focaccia this
side of the Atlantic.” This may or may not be
true, but the pizza-like treat is certainly great to
refuel with before heading up Fort Ross Rd. And,
this friendly family business is a great place for
a coffee or an early lunch.
