In 1966 Sergio Leone brought us The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly (Il Buono, Il Brutto, Il Cativo – if you do Italian). Riding out of the saddle in those days meant you were riding a horse! In 2011, Chris Brew and his friends brought us the Four Italians and an Irishman. These college buddies and old-time neighbors joined us for a week’s worth of good riding out of the saddle on a cycle tour of Napa and Sonoma. The saddle by the way, was well cushioned and attached to a sleek hybrid bike!
Their trip started with some fun cycling in the Napa Valley along the Silverado Trail and into the Pope Valley. In classic college buddy tradition, these gents from out East gave new meaning to the name Silverado Squatters (no insult to Stevenson). You have to see their Facebook post to understand why! The Gang of Five were not afraid to take on some challenging routes and also enjoyed the leisure of scenic back roads. They travelled across Sonoma County leaving a trail of laughs and good memories behind. They concluded their trip with a ride along the coast and stopped for a coastal walk along the trails bordering the Pacific Ocean. They were a handful of fun and we were certainly glad to host them.
